Species:Species Information
Ludwigia repens is an attractive, fast growing plant that originates in southern North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean Islands. Ludwigia repens leaves range in color from dark green to red and depend on the amount of light and nutrients it receives; if this species does not get enough nutrients and light, its colors will become less vibrant and will fade.
Aquarium Care
Ludwigia repens requires a moderate to high light intensity of 2.5 to 5 watts per gallon from full spectrum (5000-7000K) bulbs. Regular CO2 injection, lean nitrate levels, high phosphate levels, and heavy dosing with iron and trace elements, will help Ludwigia repens produce vibrant coloration and health.
Propagation Information
For propagation, simply cut a healthy stem and replant it into the substrate. "Topping" this plant and leaving the rooted portions in the substrate promotes very bushy growth as the plant will produce numerous side shoots. After cutting, remove the leaves from the last node on the freshly clipped stem to insure proper root growth when replanting.
