Native Habitat and Species Information

Amazon Sword native habitat, distribution, behavior & aquarium compatibility.

Amazon Swords are a very popular plant species within the aquarium hobby due to their stunning appearance and ready availability. Even though this plant species is found in most every pet store, they do require a moderate amount of care and are not suitable for aquariums with low lighting and without nutrient supplementation.

They will need to be provided with at least 2 watts per gallon of full spectrum lighting with a Kelvin rating between 5000 and 7000K. They should also be provided iron and potassium supplements along with warm water temperatures between 70° and 82° F

Amazon Sword is also popular with hobbyists experienced with keeping live plants due to its brilliant coloration, unique leaf pattern and diverse planting options.
